Kobe Bryant, the legendary NBA gamer and Oscar-winning writer, died in a helicopter crash Sunday morning in Calabasas, Calif., together with his 13- year-old child, Gianna, triggering a wave of homages from stars of the sports and home entertainment worlds, and beyond.
Previous teammate Pau Gasol, who won two NBA championships with Bryant on the Los Angeles Lakers and also fought him in 2 Olympic gold medal matches, tweeted, “Beyond ravaged … my huge brother … I can’t, I just can’t think it.”
Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, who regularly welcomed Bryant on his show, composed, “He was excellent, charming & among the hardest-working athletes ever, however what impressed me most was how deeply-involved Kobe was with his 4 daughters. Pray for them, Vanessa, his parents & his fellow guests’ households on this unfortunate and shocking day. We will never forget you Kobe.”
Derek Jeter composed a moving tribute to Bryant on The Gamer’s Tribune, composing, “Here was this person who was beyond talented as an athlete, who was obsessed with being a champion, who was called an outright assassin with a ball in his hands. And in the moments I got to invest with him? He didn’t really discuss any of that. He cared much more about being a husband to Vanessa and a dad to his women. He loved his household– he was his family. That’s what was essential.”
